The gendered lens on masculinities opens up new perspectives for understanding Nazism and World War II, as German and Austrian men found themselves at the centre of various changes and challenges. Though Nazism advocated male comradeship and regulated gender through racist, homophobic, sexist and eugenic laws, the war offered "Aryan" men new spaces for sexual experimentation and freedom, including multiple forms of gendered and sexual violence.
