Since policies on employment and social inclusion are primarily the responsibility of national governments (living and working conditions, wages, pensions, unemployment benefits, status of foreign workers, etc.), both on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty and in the light of 70 years of European integration, the aim is to consider the specific features of the two countries' social systems, and to grasp developments specific to Germany. Taking stock allows us to open a debate on the current and future dynamics of divergence and convergence in social policies at European level. These issues are of particular interest in the run-up to the European elections in June 2024.
