The pont Notre-Dame was one of the most extraordinary inhabited bridges in Paris. Its history remains attached to an event: the ephemeral presentation on the façade of Gersaint's store of the famous Shopsign painted by Watteau in 1720. What did this monumental bridge look like before the destruction of its dwellings? Why did L'Enseigne de Gersaint have such an impact? How to project oneself in this universe so foreign to our current experience of Parisian bridges? How can we go beyond the mental image that everyone can make of themselves from the sources that have come down to us?
So many questions that motivated this digital reconstruction of the Notre-Dame bridge. By striving to restore the meaning of the spaces and volumes of its disappeared architecture, such as making the light and sound of its environment sensitive, its authors offer an original 5D exploration of the bridge, as well as a reflection on the contribution of digital technologies to historical research.
