The unsustainability of lifestyles in many territories is ecological (exceeding planetary boundaries), social (human and societal suffering) and economic (dead end of the search for growth at all costs). The political economy of unsustainability offers original theoretical and practical insights on the causes and solutions to be implemented. It moves away from the ready-to-think of the mainstream economy, builds bridges between disciplines, draws on alternative experiences to bring new perspectives. Challenging dominant models starts with concepts based on fundamental needs: relational rather than monetary value, ecodevelopment rather than weak sustainability, search for common goods and transformative governance. The various studies presented from various fields show both the ways out of unsustainability and the important challenges to be met.
