In Lille, Roubaix and Tourcoing, the activists of May 68 and the subsequent cycle of protest have shaped social movements until today, far from the streets of Paris' Quartier Latin. The result of a large sociological study based on life stories and archives, this book traces the trajectories of labor, feminist and revolutionary activists in the Lille area during the long 68. Visiting factories, militant headquarters, streets and apartments, it explores the spaces of mobilisation where activists, often forgotten in national narratives, met. The book recounts their voices, sheds light on the struggles they led and examines the effects of their commitment on their lives. In so doing, the book exhumes a local memory and shows how 'changing the world' also changed lives.
