Is voting just a matter of numbers? This is the impression that can be given by an election chronicle focused on the voting intentions curve or the composition or distribution of the votes. However, if voting remains fundamentally an operation of counting, it is not enough to count the votes in order to understand how voters perceive the electoral offer, interpret its issues and finally make their choice. Based on a lengthy survey conducted in close proximity to citizens, the contributions in this book examine the weight of their social trajectories and their context of existence on their ways of understanding the vote. Deployed throughout the 2017 electoral sequence, the survey shows the persistence of social logics in the making of votes in the face of an unprecedented disorder of the electoral offer. It proposes to renew the sociology of the social variables that shape electoral preferences.
