In the continuity of Volume 1, which retraced the history of the University of Douai-Lille from 1562 to 1968, this second volume presents, in seven abundantly illustrated chapters, the main developments in this institution from 1968 to the present day. The University of Lille, with its four faculties and institutes, was reorganised under the Faure Act of November 1968, giving rise to three universities: Lille 1, Lille 2 and Lille 3. All three were faced with a second wave of massification of their student and teaching populations, which necessitated a number of spatial adjustments. Studies were radically overhauled, with the development of new, more vocational courses, while research was strengthened and structured into larger laboratories. The merger in January 2018 created a community of nearly 80,000 members, requiring major internal reorganisation, but also making the University of Lille more visible on a national and international scale.
