Between conflicts and negotiations, how evolve industrial relations in French workplaces since the 2000s? Based on statistical and monographic surveys conducted over the past twenty years, the plurality and fragmentation of ordinary industrial relations seen from below are analyzed here. The book thus sets out to describe and organize the wide variety of relationships, ranging from open conflict to negotiated cooperation, that link employees, staff representatives – particularly trade unionists – managers and executives. It highlights how important the size of establishments is in understanding how four social worlds of workplaces are organized. Polarized between small and large establishments, the world of labor relations also differs between medium-sized establishments, on the one hand, and publicly regulated establishments, on the other.
