Is the circular economy at the service of the environmental cause or at the service of the economy, institutions and their players? Read More
The circular economy is seen as one of the main routes to ecological transition, since it offers a solution to the problem of resource depletion and waste disposal. Based on the shared experience of a major project financed by European funds, the researchers from different disciplines who contribute to this book offer an often critical reading of the driving forces behind the development of a circular economy that is essentially based on management, communication and market economy logics. Analyses of the project's modes of governance and financing, the solutions it advocates, the players it mobilises and those it ignores, shed light on the way in which major societal projects are conceived in almost total ignorance of social realities. It shows that the success of the circular economy is not based on its contribution to solving environmental problems, but on its ability, assessed in terms of technical and managerial performance, to fuel discourse and deliver benefits to its players.
