The "Cross-Views on Salt" workshop has been dedicated to the study of salt culture for over ten years. It shows that this mineral, common to humanity and essential to life, has given birth to a true material and intellectual crystallization of words, expressions, texts, images... The abundance of research on salt provides a solid basis for interdisciplinary work: geology, archaeology, history, arts, medicine and others come together and intertwine. This third part of the Salt and Society series follows on from volumes 1. Techniques, usages, langage (2017) et 2. Santé, croyances, économie (2020). It focuses on two themes: the “colors of salt” and “salt and tears,” also complementing the more creation-oriented approach of Sels d'hier, sels d’aujourd’hui (2023). Specialists have turned their attention to salt in order to enhance its expressions and demonstrate the polymorphic aspects of salt within our society.
