Explain and contextualise the evolving difficulties of teachers in France (19th-21st centuries). Read More
If nowadays the teaching profession is facing numerous difficulties, while also offering some benefits and satisfactions, the fifteen contributions gathered in this book put into perspective teachers vulnerabilities over the long period from the 19th to the 21st centuries, both in primary and secondary schools, for men and women. Some preexisting problems have almost disappeared (poor material facilities, close political supervision). Others, linked to poor subject knowledge, a lack of authority in the classroom or pedagogical and didactic difficulties, are still present. Finally, others have appeared with the massification of education and societal developments that are changing the place of children and adolescents within the families and schools. Accelerated changes in access to information, via the new media, are also modifying the role of the teacher, while the modalities of his or her training are complex to get stability.
