Always faster, always stronger: our societies have been heading towards the ecological wall with relative carelessness for several decades. This blindness is linked to the domination of economics which has divided the human and non-human "living" into a regulated division. Diverging supposes redefining the meaning of our collective activity, which economism has extraordinarily reversed: putting our means at the service of a collective end and not the other way around. To do this Nicolas POSTEL and Danny ROBERT DUFOUR propose to undo the thread woven since Bernard de Mandeville author of The Fable of the Bees precisely at the moment when, according to Karl Polanyi, the establishment of an inversion between ends and means in the framework of what he describes as a “self-regulating market system”. Avoiding collapse requires returning to this particular moment, to the roots of our now deadly economic and social dynamic of accumulation, to build another foundation for our living together.
