La fin du plafond de verre et des stéréotypes? Du rapport entre femmes politiques et médias
En Allemagne, le plus haut poste au gouvernement est occupé depuis 2005 par une femme. Le plafond de verre, qui avait jusque là entravé la carrière des femmes vers les plus hautes sphères de la politique, a commencé à se fissurer. Mais les femmes ayant des ambitions en politique se heurtent manifestement toujours à des barrières : les femmes restent des étrangères en politique. Étant donné que les médias déterminent largement l'image que se fait la population de la politique et contribuent à décider si, et dans quelle mesure, les femmes correspondent à cette image, les femmes politiques sont forcées de tenir compte des attentes qui en découlent si elles veulent faire carrière en politique. De ce fait, elles doivent se soumettre à un numéro d'équilibriste entre, d’un côté, les attentes de la société envers les femmes quant au comportement et aux compétences qui leur sont attribuées et, de l’autre, les exigences liées à la politique, dont les règles de fonctionnement portent une forte empreinte masculine. 
Cette contribution opère la synthèse des résultats d’analyses de couvertures médiatiques portant sur des femmes politiques et des conclusions formulées sur la façon dont les médias et les femmes politiques se traitent mutuellement. À la lumière de ceux-ci, elle apprécie la portée et les limites des succès des femmes dans la politique allemande.

Die gläserne Decke durchbrochen und den Stereotypen entkommen? Wie Politikerinnen und Medien miteinander umgehen
In Deutschland ist das wichtigste Regierungsamt seit 2005 mit einer Frau besetzt. Die gläserne Decke, die Frauen beim Aufstieg in die höheren Sphären der Politik bislang behinderte, hat Risse bekommen. Offenbar gibt es aber noch immer Barrieren für Frauen, die in der Politik aufsteigen wollen; Frauen bleiben Fremde in der Politik. Da die Medien das Bild prägen, das sich die Bevölkerung von der Politik macht, und damit beeinflussen, ob und wie Frauen in dieses Bild passen, müssen Politikerinnen die daraus entstehenden Erwartungen berücksichtigen, wenn sie in der Politik Karriere machen wollen: Für sie entsteht daraus eine schwierige Gratwanderung zwischen Erwartungen an weibliches Verhalten und ihnen zugewiesene Kompetenzen auf der einen und der männlich geprägten Politik entsprechenden Anforderungen auf der anderen Seite.
Dieser Beitrag trägt Ergebnisse aus Analysen der medialen Berichterstattung über Politikerinnen und Erkenntnissen zum Umgang von Politikerinnen mit den Medien zusammen und beurteilt vor diesem Hintergrund Erfolge und Misserfolge von Frauen in der deutschen Politik.

Summary

The glass ceiling crashed ‒ no more stereotypes? How female politicians and media deal with each other
Since 2005, the most important office in the German government lies in the hands of a woman. The glass ceiling that made it difficult for women to climb up the ladder to the higher political spheres, got cracks. However, there still seem to be barriers for women who want to get ahead in the political business. Women still appear as "the other" in the politics. The media have an important impact on people's image of politics and whether and in what way women are part of the picture. Therefore, women have to deal with the ensuing expectations if they want to make a career in politics. As a consequence, they are sent on a tightrope walk: On the one hand, they have to meet the expectations and competencies that are associated with female behavior, on the other hand, they have to prove that they are up to the standards of the male business of politics.
This article summarizes findings from studies of media reporting about female politicians and how women deal with the media and assesses the success and the failures of women in German politics.
