<Text textformat="02" language="eng"><p>Reflecting literary theory's study of the practical forms of reading, contemporary narratives use the figures of readers to represent current interpretative practices through fiction. Between 1990 and 2010, there has been a shift in the ways of reading: against the division between scholarly and everyday reading, narrative representations of reading are questioning the uses to which texts are put, and renegotiating the place of traditional hermeneutics and its practices of deciphering. As a literary motif and as a theoretical object, contemporary figures of reading attest to the critical function of fictions, in a constantly changing media and digital context that emphasises, to the point of injunction, the question of effectiveness. These include texts by Arno Bertina, Éric Chevillard, Christine Montalbetti, Emmanuelle Pireyre, Olivia Rosenthal, Pierre Senges, Camille de Toledo, and the oulipiens Jacques Roubaud, Anne F. Garréta and Paul Fournel.</p></Text>
